We take our role as innkeepers seriously—which, of course, includes the grueling task of eating our way through Ashland’s restaurant scene. (Poor us, right?) But how else can we know what to recommend to our guests? It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it.

Our most recent “research” brought us to Cocorico for a birthday dinner, and it did not disappoint. This festive little gem—just a short walk from the Oregon Cabaret Theater—feels both cozy and polished, with a modern Mediterranean menu that’s full of bright, inventive flavors. We shared the evening with Ace and Stacey (our first couple-friends in Ashland!), which made the experience all the more special—great company in a place that truly knows how to make a meal feel like a celebration.

Rick and Ace both went all in on the duck confit—rich, decadent, and every bit as indulgent as it should be—while I chose the market fish, perfectly cooked and served over turmeric rice with fresh vegetables. Stacey kept it classic with the carbonara, which managed to be both rich and surprisingly light. Every plate was vibrant, thoughtfully composed, and clearly made with care.

The service? Exceptional. Our server was warm, intuitive, and incredibly knowledgeable—present when we needed her, but never hovering. Honestly, some of the best service we’ve had anywhere.

We saved dessert for the show at the Cabaret, but the meal at Cocorico was a standout on its own. If you’re looking for something memorable and walkable from downtown, this one’s an easy yes.
