Local Spotlight: Dana Campbell Vineyards

One of our goals this year is to visit more local spots in and around Ashland—you know, for the benefit of our guests. We can’t very well recommend a place we haven’t experienced ourselves, right?

Last weekend, we headed just up the hill to Dana Campbell Vineyards, perched on the foothills just east of town with a sweeping panoramic view of the Rogue Valley. The setting alone is worth the visit, but the wine and hospitality made it even better.

Red and white wine flights, and small plates on a umbrella-shaded patio table, overlooking a view of the vineyard and valley.

Dana Campbell produces all of their wines from estate-grown grapes, cultivating eight varieties on 17 sunny acres—well-suited to our warm Southern Oregon climate. Rick and I shared two tasting flights, red and white, featuring wines made from grapes like Tempranillo, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier. While the wines didn’t quite knock our socks off, they were easy to enjoy and felt perfectly in tune with the relaxed, scenic vibe of the place.

We each picked a favorite to take home: a crisp 2019 Sauvignon Blanc for me, and a smooth 2016 Tempranillo for Rick.

As much as we enjoyed the wine, it’s the Ashland vineyard views that really steal the show. Whenever we’re wine tasting, I’m never quite sure if I’m enjoying the wine more because of the ambiance, and at Dana Campbell, that distinction was especially hard to make. Between the sweeping views, friendly and attentive service, and generous small plates (we tried the cheese plate and meatballs—both tasty), it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

If you’re looking for a relaxed Rogue Valley wine tasting experience with unbeatable scenery, Dana Campbell Vineyards is well worth a stop.
